ICYMI: Scott Brown Union Leader Op-Ed: “We can’t follow Dems in attacking business community”

WASHINGTON – Over the weekend, Competitiveness Coalition Chair Scott Brown highlighted why both sides of the aisle should reject the Biden-Harris administration’s anti-business, anti-competitive, antitrust policies in his latest guest op-ed in the Union-Leader

Brown opens by warning Republicans against falling into the trap of “Khanservatism,” a reference to the concerning amount of support Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina Khan has received from certain GOP lawmakers: “Republicans would be wise to avoid falling into the trap of aiding and abetting the Biden Administration’s broadsides against American innovators. Not only will targeting the private sector add further uncertainty to an economy reeling from a disappointing July jobs report and a sudden plunge of the stock market, but adopting talking points more associated with progressive policy agendas is also not popular among the American public — especially in the battleground states.”

The piece emphasizes the Competitiveness Coalition’s recent exclusive polling numbers, which show that swing state voters are largely opposed to punitive antitrust overreach: “Khan, along with antitrust regulators at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has initiated sweeping lawsuits against Amazon, Apple, and Google. According to new polling data from the Competitiveness Coalition, nearly two-thirds of voters (64%) agree that these efforts to break up large technology companies will result in higher prices for consumers. Meanwhile, inflation remains the top concern for voters.

Brown concludes by harkening back to the Republican party’s past to attempt to steer the ship into the future: “During his 1976 address at the Republican National Convention, Ronald Reagan called for a ‘banner of bold, unmistakable colors with no pale pastels.’ Nearly half a century has passed, but the lesson remains salient today, especially regarding attitudes toward the industries and innovation that have made our economy the envy of the world.”
