WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, Competitiveness Coalition Chairman Ronna McDaniel authored a new op-ed for RealClearMarkets sounding the alarm on the impact of newly-minted Chair of New York City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC), Lina Khan, on the city’s economy.
“This week marks another milestone for socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s goal of remaking New York’s economy. By definition, it also means taking America’s largest metropolitan economy backward,” writes McDaniel, a former four-term chair of the Republican National Committee. “In appointing Khan as chair, the Mayor has ceded the reins to the agency responsible for attracting jobs and investment to someone who has spent her career treating American business as the enemy.”
McDaniel continued: “When [Khan] was put in charge of finding a president for the EDC, The New York Times reported that Khan’s questions were not focused on the issues that were typically the agency’s north star. Instead, “several economic development experts expressed concern about [Khan’s] apparent lack of emphasis…on job creation and expanding the city’s tax base…”
“Under the stewardship of Zohran Mamdani and Lina Khan, New York’s business community faces the unfriendliest of faces. There is nothing in either of their records or their actions to suggest they have any interest in using the city’s Economic Development Corporation for its intended purpose of economic growth and bringing new jobs to a city already suffering a rapid erosion of its tax base. Now, when businesses look to grow in New York, Mamdani’s perch in City Hall and Khan’s presence atop the EDC amount to a big, red sign reading “CLOSED FOR BUSINESS,” concluded McDaniel.
