Competitiveness Coalition Warns of the Disastrous Impact of the Open App Markets Act (OAMA)

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, a group of U.S. Senators reintroduced the disastrous Open App Markets Act (OAMA), which would hurt American innovation, economic growth, and national security.

First introduced in Congress in 2021, the OAMA would put users of app stores at risk of having sensitive information end up in the hands of unscrupulous actors while making the app store experience less convenient. In short, the legislation punishes platforms for their investments to ensure user security while bending to the radical, reflexive “big-is-bad” antitrust ideology that has been championed by controversial figures such as former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina Khan.

“The OAMA would directly conflict with President Trump’s mission to Make America Competitive Again,” said the Competitiveness Coalition. “Preventing our innovators from doing what they do best puts our economy at risk while ceding ground to Communist China and other competitors in the technology space, who are willing to stop at nothing to achieve global hegemony. The bill cannot pass.”

For more than three years, the Competitiveness Coalition has been sounding the alarm on the egregious government overreach and concerning actions by U.S. regulators.
