Competitiveness Coalition Rips Biden’s FTC Budget Request Boondoggle

WASHINGTON – With the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under fire for its overreach and management, the Competitiveness Coalition today panned President Joe Biden’s request for the beleaguered agency to receive a whopping 37% increase in federal funding:

“Conservatives are quickly realizing that handing more power to Biden’s FTC opens the door to more politically motivated attacks from committed leftists,” said Chair Scott Brown. “From bad headlines, resignations, sinking staff morale and a departure from its long history of bipartisanship, it is ludicrous to think Chair Lina Khan deserves a raise from Congress. Conservatives must send a strong message that the days of the FTC running amok are coming to an end and oppose this boondoggle of a budget request.”

Specifically, Biden’s budget calls for the FTC to receive a funding level of $590 million – a surge from the 2023 level of $430 million. Under Lina Khan’s leadership, the FTC is facing a myriad of problems, highlighted by the resignation of Christine Wilson, the sole remaining Republican commissioner on the panel. Wilson shared her concerns about “the honesty and integrity of Ms. Khan and her senior FTC leadership” in a searing Wall Street Journal op-ed.
