Competitiveness Coalition Releases Survey Data In Pennsylvania

69% of Pennsylvania Voters Believe That Breaking Up Large Tech Companies Will Lead To Higher Consumer Prices, Inflation Named Top Issue

PENNSYLVANIA – Today, the Competitiveness Coalition, chaired by former U.S. Senator and Ambassador Scott Brown, released new survey data conducted among likely voters in Pennsylvania. Key findings include:

  • Top three issues for voters include:
    • Inflation (25%)
    • Immigration (19%)
    • Threats to American democracy (13%)
  • More than two-thirds (69%) agree that breaking up large technology companies will result in higher prices for consumers.
  • Just 1 person across the entire PA survey listed breaking up tech companies as their top issue.
  • A plurality (38%) say that the Federal Trade Commission going after many American companies will have a negative impact on the economy.
  • A clear majority (56%) oppose the Biden Administration targeting companies like Amazon, Apple, and Google with burdensome regulations and lawsuits.
  • A sizable majority (57%) specifically oppose the Biden Administration’s lawsuit against Amazon.
  • Keystone State voters are concerned about the impact new regulations to break up technology companies could have on their own lives. Voters were relatively evenly divided, with 28% saying Apple no longer ensuring the safety and security of downloads would be their biggest concern, followed by Amazon increasing prices and ending free two-day shipping (26%) and Google removing access to products like Google Maps (20%). Seven percent (7%) would be most concerned about Facebook charging to use their app and website, and 17% said none of these would be a concern to them.
  • Kamala Harris currently has a three-point advantage on the presidential ballot. Donald Trump receives 45% on the multi-candidate ballot, compared to 48% for Harris. Just 3% of voters are backing a third-party candidate, and only 4% are undecided at this point.

“Pennsylvanians, already worried about inflation and the cost of living, are keenly aware that the Biden-Harris war on tech will lead to higher prices,” said Scott Brown, former U.S. Senator and Ambassador and chair of the Competitiveness Coalition. “Yet with the cheerleading of Josh Shapiro, the Biden FTC remains hellbent on destroying American free enterprise and innovation, an irresponsible agenda that more than one in three Keystone State voters say will have a negative impact on the economy.”

On behalf of the Competitiveness Coalition, Public Opinion Strategies conducted a survey of N=400 likely voters in Pennsylvania. The survey was conducted July 23-29, 2024 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%. Surveys were conducted with online panel respondents (N=268) and with text message respondents who were sent a link to complete the survey online to (N=132).

In addition to the Pennsylvania survey, the Coalition released surveys across four other battleground states – Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin – which found nearly two-thirds (64%) agree that breaking up large technology companies will result in higher prices for consumers. More information on the surveys across those battleground states can be found here.
