Competitiveness Coalition Chairman Ronna McDaniel Urges Mayor-Elect Mamdani To Drop Lina Khan If He’s Serious About Affordability

WASHINGTON – Competitiveness Coalition Chairman Ronna McDaniel sent a letter to socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, urging him to reconsider the appointment of former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina Khan to his transition team, citing her anti-consumer, anti-business record during her tenure and continuation of the failed “Bidenomics” agenda.

In the letter, McDaniel writes in party: “Mayor-elect Mamdani, more than one million New Yorkers cast ballots for you, drawn to your promise of ushering in a ‘new kind of politics.’ Empowering the failed policies of Lina Khan is no way to start that journey. Aligning yourself with the ‘Bidenomics’ policy agenda that by your admission led many voters to cast ballots for both President Trump represents a betrayal of the principles that guided your campaign.”

“To give Lina Khan any power over New York City’s economic policies would be incredibly reckless, and further decimate the business community which powers the city’s economy and makes up its tax base,” added McDaniel, a former four-term chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). “There is still time for Mayor-elect Mamdani to rethink whether Khan is really the best person to help him bring affordability back to New York City. During her four years atop the FTC, Lina Khan abandoned the consumer welfare standard, cost hundreds of American jobs, wasted millions of dollars in taxpayer money on baseless lawsuits driven more by her left-wing ideology than the law, and actively worked with European regulators to undermine American innovators and their ability to grow and conduct business – all of which contributed to sky high prices and the cost of living crisis under the Biden Administration.”

The letter comes after Khan participated in a recent media tour, outlining how she plans to rehash many of the failed policies of the progressive Biden Administration. According to Bloomberg, Khan has been advising the Democratic Socialist on “economic policy and personnel.” Mamdani’s term as Mayor of New York City officially begins on Jan. 1, 2026.
