WASHINGTON – Today, Ronna McDaniel, Chairman of the Competitiveness Coalition, blasted efforts to reintroduce the failed American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICOA), as reported in Punchbowl News:
“At a time when consumers are already being squeezed by higher gas prices and inflation, it’s mind-boggling that big-government advocates from the left and right would rally behind a failed relic from the Biden-Khan years. The American Innovation and Choice Online Act would kneecap domestic companies that provide everyday goods at lower prices, while handing a key strategic advantage to companies based in Communist China, who are already seeking to supplant and overtake our technological advantage. This bill is like a bad penny that just won’t go away. We have long come to expect this type of harmful economic overreach from the left who drove the economy into a ditch with Bidenomics, but it’s disappointing to see organizations purportedly committed to economic growth breathe new life into it.”
First introduced in 2021 during the Biden Administration, AICOA has failed to gain traction in previous sessions of Congress. By handing massive new regulatory authority to the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice and effectively banning lower-cost options like “store-branded” products, AICOA would reduce consumer choice and increase prices.
