Chairman Ronna McDaniel in Newsweek: “Mamdani Is Building an Anti-Business Team”

WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, Competitiveness Coalition Chairman Ronna McDaniel authored a new piece for Newsweek warning of the damage former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina Khan could inflict in her nebulous role in New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration in the wake of a New York Times report that she is interviewing potential new leaders of the city’s Economic Development Corporation.

“Having the world’s richest man in the White House offends liberals’ senses. But Lina Khan, with her hostility toward business and record of destroying growth, is acceptable and even welcome news. The dust had not settled on Mamdani’s victory last fall before the mayor-elect named Khan as co-chair of his transition team with a focus on ‘economic policy and personnel,’” writes McDaniel, a former four-term Republican National Committee chair. “Now Khan is reportedly spearheading Mamdani’s search for the next head of the city’s Economic Development Corporation, charged with maintaining the city’s economic competitiveness—not with an eye toward jobs or growth, but in the name of ‘economic justice.’”

McDaniel continues: “The Khan-Biden years were marked by consistent and brutal attacks on American free enterprise, exemplified by Khan’s outlandish statement likening tech leaders to mob bosses. From landmark lawsuits against Amazon to government interference in everything from handbags and alcohol to sandwiches, soft drinks and groceries, virtually no industry found itself immune to Khan’s wrath. There was no lever of government Khan hesitated to pull, toppling the consumer welfare standard and other antitrust principles that have served customers well for generations. Her meddling in an attempted merger between Amazon and iRobot sent the latter spiraling into bankruptcy and an eventual takeover by a Chinese company.”

“If Mamdani allows Khan to run roughshod over New York City’s economy the same way Biden did, her trail of ruin will live on well after the snow banks melt,” concluded McDaniel.
