WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the U.S. Senate’s reintroduction of the American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICOA), Competitiveness Coalition Chairman Ronna McDaniel issued the following statement:
“Resurrecting a Biden relic like AICOA represents a major blunder by lawmakers who should know better than to try and kneecap America’s economic engines and hurt President Trump’s efforts to Make America Competitive Again,” said McDaniel, a former four-term Republican National Committee Chair. “Slapping heavy-handed, European-style regulations on America’s most innovative tech companies jeopardizes our national security and hobbles U.S. technological supremacy at the very moment President Trump is working hard to keep us ahead of Communist China in the race for global domination of AI and the digital economy.”
First introduced in 2021, AICOA has failed to gain traction in previous sessions of Congress. By handing sweeping new regulatory authority to the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice and effectively banning lower-cost options like “store-branded” products, AICOA would reduce consumer choice and increase prices.
