WASHINGTON – Yesterday, the Canadian government rescinded its punitive Digital Services Tax on American technology companies just hours before the tax, retroactive to 2022, was set to take effect after President Donald Trump stood up for our innovators and ended trade negotiations with Canada. The Competitiveness Coalition issued the below statement:
“America scores a major economic win not only for the innovators of today, but also the ones of tomorrow and beyond, courtesy of President Trump. Other countries that unfairly target American innovators, including many in the European Union, are on notice that there is a new sheriff in town. The days of the Biden Administration and former Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan colluding with foreign regulators to undermine American interests are over, as President Trump has shown that he will fight to protect our industries against unfair foreign interference. Under this administration, there is no more standing idly by as other countries use backhanded tactics to rip us off and stifle economic growth.”
For more than three years, the Competitiveness Coalition has been sounding the alarm on the egregious government overreach and concerning actions by U.S. regulators.
